Games Ceremonies team call for auditions

Senator Rod Kemp with Games Minister Madden, Premier Bracks and students from NICAAs preparations continue for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, Australians over the age of 18 have been invited to audition for a role in the much anticipated Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The Ceremonies team is casting wide for people from all backgrounds and with varying experience in several performance categories such as dance, acting and physical expression to participate.

Although information about the roles is limited to keep details of the Ceremonies under wraps, applicants may be cast in a feature role, or form part of a mass choreography sequence.

Those who have a keen interest or experience in the entertainment industry are encouraged to apply.

If you have already registered for an audition with the Ceremonies, please log in to the Ceremonies Cast Portal and follow the steps to view your audition date, time and important information.

For those under the age of 18 who are interested in being involved in the Ceremonies, there will be specialised roles to be announced at a later date.

The Australian Government is proud to be funding the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and has provided $40 million to fund the Games Ceremonies Program.

The Federal Minister for Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, said cast members will unite as one to deliver an event that creates moments of joy, warmth and pride for all.

“The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will celebrate, promote and educate others on Australia, its people and its role in the Commonwealth and the world,” Mr Kemp said.

“Both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will showcase our finest and most talented performers,” Mr Bracks said.

“Victoria has a long history of producing the finest performing artists in Australia and we look forward to recruiting such performers to help us stage Victoria’s best sporting and cultural event.”

While up to 8000 applications will be accepted, only 5000 positions are available.

Australians with hearing, speech or communication impairment may call through the Australian Government’s National Relay Service using TTY (text Phone) or computer with a modem by dialling 133677 and quoting 1300 00 2006.

Applicants will be notified as to whether or not they have secured an audition place by early August and auditions will take place between Wednesday 10 August and Sunday 28 August 2005.
