Games tickets available for athletes’ families

The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Chief Executive Officer, Mr John Harnden, has announced that organisers have set aside most of the Australian athletes' family tickets requested by the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA).
Athletes' families will be able to purchase up to four tickets for every session in which their loved ones compete, excluding the non-competition Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
Australian athletes selected to compete and National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) involved in the Games will have tickets available for purchase through the ACGA.
“Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation has worked hard to ensure a range of tickets are available for families and NSOs across all sports,” Mr Harnden said.
“The ACGA requested just over 18,000 tickets for athletes’ families and NSOs and we have been able to deliver around 15,000 of these, about 80 per cent.
“We have completely fulfilled requests at half of the sports, including high profile events such as Athletics, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Rhythmic Gymnastics.
“At a handful of high demand sports such as Basketball, Swimming and Hockey, we met more than 80 per cent of their requests.”
Mr Harnden said athlete ticket allocations had been based on the maximum possible number of competing Australians, both individually and as part of teams events, and reaching the medal round of each event.
“Exact athlete numbers will not be available until the Australian team is announced by the ACGA early next year,” he said.
Mr Harnden added that allocations to athletes’ families and NSOs through the ACGA were drawn from the commercial ticket allocation and did not impact on the number of tickets available to the general public.
