Injuries In 2002 the medial ligament of his arm snapped, and Oliver underwent an elbow reconstruction.
Other Oliver holds the Australian under 20 Javelin record and the Western Australian Open record.

His interests include fishing, snorkelling, bodyboarding and listening to music. Oliver is also known as Grasshopper.

In 2005 he won his first Australian national championship after taking silver the previous year.
