Australia's Jason Dudley
competing in the Decathlon
Long Jump event at the MCG.
Guernsey’s Dale Garland is off to a flying start in the first two events of the Men’s Decathlon, posting a 70 point lead over his nearest rival, England’s Dean Macey.
Garland who finished second and first respectively in the 100m and Long Jump is confident of holding strong over the final eight events.
"I'm in the lead so far but the next event is the Shot Put and I expect to lose a few points in that one. Hopefully I'll make those up in the 400m," said Garland.
Maurice Smith of Jamaica, currently placed third overall, had one of only two sub-eleven second runs in the 100m, stopping the clock at 10.81.
Australia's Jason Dudley is well placed after the first two events in sixth position with 1652 points.
The remaining events of this multi-discipline competition are: Shot Put, High Jump, 400m, 110m Hurdles, Discus Throw, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw and 1500m.
