Australia’s Fabrice Lapierre qualified with the third longest jump of 7.92m, just ahead of Ghana's Ignisious Gaisah who jumped 7.91m.

Jamaica’s James Beckford withdrew from the event.
Mokoena is ranked ninth in the field and said after qualifying: "In the Final anything is possible - anything can happen. It's not about being worried, it's about being focused. I'm just happy to be in the Final."
Fourth ranked Gaisah, who is competing in his first Games, spoke afterwards about his performance.
"I'm looking forward to jumping as far as I can in the Final tomorrow," he said.
