convincingly against South Africa.
New Zealand's Geoff Bellingham began his quest for a Men's Singles medal in Badminton with an easy win against Jersey's Gavin Carter, 21-8, 21-8.
Top-seed and hot favourite to win the gold medal, Chong Wei Lee of Malaysia wasted no time disposing of South Africa's Dorian James, with a scoreline 21-7, 21-6.
Anup Sridhar, whose win against Singapore helped India earn a bronze medal in the Mixed Team event, recorded a 21-11, 21-2 victory to easily account for Welshman Jonathan Morgan.
A vocal crowd was on hand to support Australian Stuart Brehaut, but the pressure of the match and the strength of his opponent, Malaysia's Wong Choong Hann, seemed to be too much on this occasion with Wong victorious 21-8, 21-5.
In the Mixed Doubles, the luck of the draw did not favour Valiyaveetil Diju and Jwala Gutta of India as they were matched against Ronald Susilo and Yanmei Jiang of Singapore in the first round.
In a crowd-pleasing match, Singapore defeated India 21-14, 21-18.
Canada made a convincing start to their Mixed Doubles campaign against Trinidad & Tobago by winning 21-10, 21-10.
In the closest match of the session, Simon Archer and Ella Tripp of England had a tough opening game, but were able to defeat Richard Vaughan and Kelly Morgan of Wales 21-15, 25-23, in 36 minutes.
