Canada’s Jeane Lassen has snatched gold in the Women’s 69kg Weightlifting and set a new Games record in her first Commonwealth Games.
A student who first began competitive Weightlifting in 1993, Lassen broke the record with a lift of 132kg in the Clean and Jerk. She looked set to score another record when she cleaned 138kg but was unable to retain the jerk. Lassen still finished in first place with a total of 229kg.
India’s Laishram Monika Devi took home the silver with a total lift of 222kg in the Snatch.
Janet Thelermont of Seychelles won her nation’s first medal of the Games when she took out the bronze, lifting a total 205kg in the Snatch and 110kg in the Clean and Jerk.
Australia's Amanda Phillips finished in fourth place with a total lift of 193kg.
